Relaxation Massage
A gentle, flowing massage which can benefit you by increasing energy and vitality, promoting a feeling of well being and improving ability to deal with stress.
How does it work?
Relaxation massage involves the manipulation of the body's soft tissues: the skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments using the hands. Using varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements it helps reduce tension in the muscles and improves flexibility.
What is it good for?
Massage can help manage stress and stress related illnesses allowing you to become more productive. It also can help relieve conditions brought on by anxiety e.g. insomnia or asthma.
What are the benfits?
It has a positive effect on the lymphatic, cardiovascular, digestive, immune, respiratory and reproductive systems of the body. It helps remove toxins from the body resulting in healthier muscles. It is useful in treating musculoskeletal pain and can reduce cellulite and oedemas.
What are the side effects and when should it be avoided?
Relaxation massage should be avoided if you have open wounds, muscle tears, sprained ligaments or burns; varicose veins, phlebitis, thrombosis, cancer, tumours, melanoma or haemophilia. This therapy is also unsuitable for anyone with infectious skin disease such as a fungal infection or herpes. People with diabetes should be aware that relaxation massage will have the same effects as exercise. I usually use a nut oil so this treatment is not suitable for people suffering from nut allergies.
