Massage in Pregnancy
A weekly or monthly massage session will help you with the aches and pains of pregnancy as well as reducing stress and promoting relaxation. Pregnant clients report that their massage sessions leave them feeling relaxed and comfortable, and with increased self-confidence and an enhanced body image.
How does it work?
Massage in pregnancy involves the manipulation of the body's soft tissues: the skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments using the hands. Using varying degrees of pressure and stretching movements it helps reduce tension in the muscles and improves flexibility.
What is it good for?
Massage during pregnancy helps to reduce stress and promote relaxation and provides emotional support (especially for those women who are going through the experience alone). It relieves muscle spasms, cramps and general aches and pains. It increases circulation and thus reduces the possibility of varicose veins and swelling in the feet and legs, helps with digestion and reduces the likelihood of stretch marks.
What are the benfits?
It has a positive effect on the lymphatic, cardiovascular, digestive, immune, respiratory and reproductive systems of the body.
What does it involve?
You will be supported in a side lying position with pillows and cushions to avoid any danger to yourself or the baby. A full body treatment takes 60 minutes including a bump massage if desired. 30 minute treatments are also available to concentrate on back, neck and shoulder trouble.
What are the side effects and when should it be avoided?
Massage during pregnancy should be avoided by women with placental dysfunctions, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, toxaemia or threatened miscarriage. It cannot be carried out in the first trimester. If in any doubt at all, have a chat with your doctor before booking.
